Serious basketball players not only practice their game, they stay in top physical shape so they can play hard and not get tired. Getting tired in a game will affect your hustle and make your form suffer. So which exercises are the most effective to build your basketball fitness? As is the case with any sport, the most effective training mimics the actual event. Good basketball training exercises will resemble the motions you make in a game.

Explosive movements will build the power and anaerobic endurance to allow you to move quickly and explosively for the entire game. Shuttle runs and running drills with cones closely mimic the speed needed for fast breaks and effective defense. You can also add dribbling to make the drill more realistic and build skills and fitness at the same time. Jump drills resemble the jumping needed for rebounds and jump shots. You can use a box for depth jumps or simply jump to reach a mark on the wall.

Medicine balls are a great way to add resistance to your drills. Using a medicine ball and a solid wall, you can perform passing and shooting drills that build power and endurance in your core and upper body.

Basketball is a great game, full of fun and tradition that has been enjoyed by countless children, men and women for generations. While baseball is America’s pastime, basketball is America’s passion.

Almost everyone will remember rebounding a basket off the backboard mounted on a friend’s garage, joining in a game of Horse or pick-up basketball, or learning to do layups in gym or PE class. Free from the budget woes of sports like hockey or football, basketball is offered in schools all across the nation.

Everyone grows up with basketball, and while not everyone gets to wear the jersey of their favorite team or journey to the Olympics, countless amateurs keep the sport alive by participating in tournaments across the country, and even on recreational basketball leagues at their local gyms or fitness centers.

Getting to play basketball is also a fun way to stay in shape. By ditching the treadmill or the elliptical, players can get their heart rates pumping with a quick competitive game. Whether you’re playing with some friends or you’re part of an all-star team, the small team size and all-over nature of the game gives everyone a piece of the action and a shot at hoops glory.Take a look here to learn more: Basketball shot selection analyzed mathematically

If you think the mid-Atlantic region is lacking in basketball talent you’ve got another think coming. You may not see any of their games on your direct.tv satellite channels but these high school teams and players are really making waves around New Jersey – keep an eye out for these guys:
Is it any surprise that St. Anthony was named the NJ Boys Basketball team of the year? They’ve got a stellar offense and their recruiting is second to none…they’ll be a force to be reckoned with for years to come.
Coach of the year was a bit of a surprise but there’s no doubt Jeff Lubreski from Plainfield took home the title deservingly. He had a lack of assistant at one point and his players were forced to play far more zone defense than ever before yet he still came out with a winning season.
Michael Gilchrist…the player of the year. St. Patrick’s pride and joy is a dynamo on the court and averaged 20.2 points a game. Oh, all that while waking up at 5am to take two buses and a train to get to school by 8:00.

There is much controversy in the sports teams about which teams are good, better, and ultimately the best. This argument takes place not only within different leagues, but outside of them as well. Many people will debate and say that some of the minor league players, or even players for local teams, are much better than the pros. Others will very strongly defend the other side by sticking by the classification of the player to defend the fact the the pros are always better than the rest.
In all reality, neither is ever entirely true. Hidden jewels are found in every niche and area and level of the sports world. There are plenty of people that are amazing and outstanding players but they will never see the camera filming them for television. Many of these people play just for fun, to raise money, or for leisure. They don’t necessarily care about the money or the fame. Others desperately wish for the money and fame, but unfortunately aren’t set up to find it.
Even with so many “hidden jewels” just out there in the world waiting to be found, most of the higher-level players really are outstanding. They wouldn’t have gotten so far if they didn’t have tons of skill and talent to offer.
Whichever the case, it is important to remember that plenty of skill and talent can be found just about anywhere, even just around the block at a local game.

Basketball is inherently a spectator sport. The free flowing, fast paced nature of the game lends itself well to eyes viewing from arenas, bars, and couches alike. But should amateur basketball be a followed sport?

There certainly is a market for it, made evident by a handful of televised high school games and number of recruit ranking publications circulated nationwide. But given a large enough following, which generally brings an influx of money, it becomes impossible for an amateur sport to remain as such.Get more information here. http://www.aseaofblue.com/2011/6/14/2214084/kentucky-basketball-recruiting-spotlight-anthony-davis

College basketball remains the big experiment for amateur athletics receiving a national spotlight; even as it becomes a billion dollar industry. But a large spotlight brings large expectations, demand, and eventually harsh criticism.

From high school basketball to weekend warriors, amateur basketball should strive to keep a barrier between its athletes and the burden of lofty expectations and demand a following would incur. It should foster an environment in which its athletes are free to enjoy and grow in their games.

So support the local high school or college team. Attend the game of a friend, neighbor, or relative. But above all else know that at its best, amateur basketball should be participated in, not followed.

It’s hard to figure out which team can win the state championship, and people don’t seem to believe that. Everyone has their favorites, and many teams are quite good, but choosing just one over the rest can be quite hard. This is especially true with the amount of talent coming through the East Coast. Many professional teams are even scouting young talent through out the region, especially since the NBA’s East Coast dominant teams are getting older.

Looking through the many different teams bidding to get a national championship, there are many stand out favorites. Each team has strengths, and even though some might be quick to pick the favorites, it’s not always the 1 team that makes it to the final stages of any tournament. This is especially true for amateur sports. How many times has a 1 seed been completely upset in college tournament play? Not only that, the NBA has favorites that get swept on a regular basis, including defending champions. The most recent and relevant example of this is the 2011 NBA playoffs, as the defending champions, the Los Angeles Lakers were swept in 4 games by the Dallas Mavericks.

Trying to determine which team can win the state championship is hard work, it’s never a sure thing, and just like college and pro basketball, it’s really a toss up. Flipping a coin might have better odds, that’s for sure.
